 Hello, friends. It’s Julie. Today is January 20th, 2025. And Archangel Michael has this very special message he wanted to bring through to you today. Friends, he says that so many of you are just really needing strength. So he wants you to know, You’re never walking this life alone, your path alone, no matter how hard life feels or how uncertain the road ahead might seem, your angels and spirit team are constantly with you, surrounding you with their love, guidance, and strength.

And every moment you’ve struggled, or every time you felt unsure or overwhelmed, especially lately, your angels want you to know that they’ve been with you with your loved ones on the other side, gently nudging you forward and helping you come into your power. It’s a different, deeper layer of your soul self.

Welcome back to the angels and awakening podcast. I’m your host and author Julie Jancius and friends today. We have Colleen Hildebrand.

She’s the new author of in the ether and friends. I can’t wait for you to hear this story today because you know, a lot of times, uh, Colleen and I were talking about this right before we jumped on. We are really trying to control what people come into our lives. Sometimes we’re trying to control other people themselves.

And in her new book in the ether, she talks about how her daughter had this young man come into her life. And this young man, I’m going to have you tell it Colleen, but, um, he’s maybe not what you would have pictured. picked for your daughter, but your daughter comes to you and asks you to have compassion, kindness, and even be a mother yourself to this young man, because he’s lost both of his parents.

And, um, I want to start there if we can.

Okay, thank you. Thank you for having me today and for allowing me to tell this story. So, as you said, um, his name is Ryan and he had a really hard time and that, as I mentioned to you, he had recently. gotten into some trouble. He was a Marine. He was out one night. He was arrested when in a blackout episode of PTSD, he punched an officer in the face, broke his orbital bone and was eventually sentenced for five years in California state prisons.

So, at that point is when Abby asked me to be a mother to him, and that was something I was reluctant to do at first, because when she met him, I was not in favor of the relationship, because he was not only older, but he came from a kind of troubled past, and I was, I was really resistant to it at first.

When I met him, as I said, you know, I give the whole story in the book, it crumbles. He was a wonderful person and the fact that he spent, um, time in prison makes me realize that not everybody who is in prison is genuinely a criminal and I think that’s another place for compassion. So I, I hear Abby’s request and shortly after that I have that experience where I’m driving and I hear a song.

And when I turned the song off, I, you had

to tell the song. I love that song. Wonder by Oasis.

The song right song. Yes. It was Oasis Champagne, supernova and, uh, champagne

Supernova.

Yes. And I, I turned the song off after becoming quite emotional for reasons that I could not fathom at the moment, but I turned it off.

And then, as I was just saying, my little morning prayer is as I go into work, I heard. be a mother to him. And there’s a chapter in my book, um, where I, I’m not going to tell you the title because I don’t know how we, I don’t know what the language parameters are. But, um, it was, it was kind of crazy. And I admitted this to Ryan in a letter that I wrote him.

And he wrote back to me that that was his mother’s favorite song. So I considered that The first sign, first big sign that I got that this young man is someone whose life I was supposed to be a part of. He was supposed to be a part of mine. And I have learned so incredibly much because of my relationship with him.

Um, and that did.

Yeah, this is so fascinating because what I believe a billion percent is that when you were in the car and you heard champagne supernova, um, for those who don’t know, uh, and our feet, I don’t think that they’ve gone on tour in over two decades, if, if not more than that, since like the nineties, um, but, uh, I can just picture you in the car hearing this.

Song and the reason that you become emotional is because his mom is with you in that moment. Right. And it’s that energy that she’s bringing through, which I think she’s the one who got through to Abby and asked you to ask that question. She was working it from the other side. I had goosebumps

as you said that.

I absolutely believe that. So, um, in terms of like signs and synchronicities. That is actually one of the major themes in the book. And although it was written completely, um, and we haven’t, we haven’t told your, your audience this yet. So it is an unintended tragedy in that, um, Ryan suffered an accident that had nothing to do with his incarceration, with his childhood, with anything other than, uh, uh, Misjudgment and, um, in a diving accident, he broke his neck and he was on life support for a while, um, a week or so.

And when they removed him, he passed. But I also told you, um, there were signs along the way. So one of the other signs. I took as we were writing back and forth. Um, I, I had this idea for a very long time that my, my brother died when I was 19. My father died when I was 32. My grandfather also died when I was 32.

And. I have always associated morning doves with them, and I know that morning doves are usually in pairs. I would always see them in threes, and I always, that’s my brother, my father, and my grandfather, and they were just assigned to me, and whenever I saw morning doves, I would think of them and say a little thank you, and I told Ryan that, and again he said, Miss Colleen.

You’re going to freak out, but at least I’m preparing you because nobody prepared me when I wrote that to him and he said when his mom got home from work, she would coo. Like a morning dove to see who, who was home and he has, he had tattoos and he had a tattoo of doves on his shoulder to represent each member of his family.

And I didn’t know that. So, although I did have what.

The most time I ever spent in his physical presence was when he was on life support in the hospital. So, we had a relationship established through writing and occasional phone calls on weekends when he could make them while he was incarcerated. Um, so that was yet another sign while he was alive. When he had his accident, Abby and I went to Phoenix and, um, almost immediately, this is strange, almost immediately, I began hearing him.

He had not passed yet, he was on life support, but I felt like he was struggling, he was deciding. Whether he was staying or going, and I’ve done so much reading over the past. This is two years old, all of this, the book’s publication, as well as Ryan’s death, which is almost three years old at this time, but.

I felt like he was, he was transitioning in and out of his body and I was hearing him. Abby felt the same way, but we didn’t know that because we hadn’t said it to one another until I talked to my other daughter who was at home and told her, you know, Jen, you’re going to think I’m insane, but I swear I feel like I’m hearing him.

And she said, Mom, Abby told me the same thing. And, um, so that was happening after he passed when he was removed from life support and he passed quickly, um, I was having, I mean, obviously it was a very difficult time, but I had come home. Prior to his, to his death, um, I was not going to be his extended family was there and only a certain number of people were going to be present when I actually removed him and I was not one of those people.

So I wanted to be home when that happened rather than alone knowing that it was happening just so close and I wasn’t present. So I would say almost the next day, Um, I just started hearing to the point where I thought I was losing my mind. I’m still here. I’m still here. It got so bad that, um, I went to the bookstore and I didn’t know what I was looking for.

I just wanted a book that could explain this. And having lost my brother and my father fairly young, I was familiar with visitation dreams. And, and I write about this in my book, um, I began with some of the most difficult aspects of my own life because I felt like I needed to revisit my own tragedies in order to understand what Ryan was going through as a young man that led him to this place where he could be arrested, um, Diagnosed with PTSD apart from the Marines.

And then of course he had seen some tragedies during his service as well. So I began with a reflection on my brother’s death, which was a drowning when he was 19, when I was 19, he was 24. And then my father died of a sudden heart attack. Um, my grandfather’s death was a bit more, I hate to say traditional, but it was a battle with cancer.

Um, so. I, I revisited all of those moments and talk about how when my brother died, I had a visitation dream that to this day feels unlike any other dream I’ve had in my life. I’m sure, you know, you and your audience are very familiar with the difference that comes with the visitation dream. And then when my father passed away, I had a similar experience to what I was having with Ryan, only it was more, it was, I was.

told that my father had a heart attack while I was at work. And although someone offered to drive me home, I said, no, I would be okay. And as I was driving home, which was about a 30 minute commute, I had a conversation with my father and he told me, It was time for him, everything had been set right with people here.

It was time for him to see my brother. Their last time together was very, very tense, which I also talk about. But I told him I understood and to move on. My sister had a similar conversation with him. She told him don’t go so it was just strange that we both had that conversation. So as I was having a similar experience when Ryan passed, I was like, this is not coincidence.

This is familiar. I need to learn what this is. So I go to this bookstore and pick up Laura Lynn Jackson’s The Light Between Us.

And it taught me what I needed to do. And it’s the first sign I asked for was a cloud in the shape of a heart. And boy, did I start seeing those. And you know, even as I’m seeing them, I’m like, well, they’ve probably always been here. I just haven’t been looking up enough to notice. So I need something a little more detailed, a little more specific.

I said, don’t give me clouds in the shape of a heart, but give me a blue sky that is outlined. with a heart. And one day, not too long after that, I was walking my dogs, and it was one of those crazy days, this Louisiana weather, where in one direction, it’s blue skies and sun, and then the other direction is like oncoming doom, just black skies and a storm rolling in.

So I was walking the dogs, toward the storm and all of a sudden there was this huge peel of thunder and I was like, Oh, time to turn around and head home. And I turned around and saw the most perfect heart in the sky. And I’m looking for it right now because I want to show you. Um, It was just, that was another tremendous sign, and I still get these, and I post them, I post them on Instagram, um, but they’re unbelievable, and I got so, so many in the early months.

Um, I had a misdirected delivery brought to my house Christmas of that year, and it was from Ryan’s Kitchen. And I also had, this is the um, I’m doing a large picture, this is some of them, but this is the cloud, and you probably won’t be able to see it quite exactly with the glare on the screen, but, um, It is just, I have it posted on my Instagram, but it is just, it was phenomenal to turn around and see that.

Um, tell everybody what it looks like. It is, it is absolutely a perfect heart. Um, I just lost it, but it was, it was just the clouds in the outline with the blue sky in the center. And I have continued to get those. And I, I try to remember to kind of post them. And I always say a little, thank you. Um, so yes, I got those signs and then, you know, how grief is, I’m sure.

And you’re in and out so much, you have good days and bad days. And although, although I feel like, you know, I was, I was managing it well. Once I got the signs from the, in the clouds, I was like, okay, what if, what if that is just coincidence and you’re always looking for a sign or sign? Yes. So I was like, okay, Roman, um, you know, the school year has just started.

It’s pretty rough coming off of everything happened over the summer. I said, um, Please, you know, let me know that you’re with me by by sending a Ryan across my path, and I had looked at so immediately when I get to school I look at my rosters, not a single Ryan and the hundred, however many students I was teaching that year.

So I’m like, Okay, well, maybe I’ll just run into a Ryan somewhere. So, the second semester began, and I had my roster, still no Ryan. Well, we had a transfer student, and sure enough, his name was Ryan. So, he didn’t, you know, physically remind me of my Ryan at all. But, uh, after I got to know him, I was like, so where are you from?

And he said, San Diego, that’s where Ryan lived. And I said, so what do you want to do? And he says, well, I want to, um, eventually I want to be a firefighter. Ryan was an inmate firefighter and, um, yep. And possibly considered doing that when he was released. And he would have been able to because a bill had recently been passed in California to allow it.

Um, and I was like, okay, this is, this is really more than I asked for, you know, I’m thinking. And then come to find out over the course of that semester. Um, this young man, this Ryan, my class, not only was he from San Diego and an inmate, or not an inmate, but a fire, wanted to be a firefighter, he also was saving for a motorcycle, which my Ryan had.

He also designed and wanted to design tattoos. Which Ryan did he and then to top it all off, um, his handwriting was so, so similar to Ryan’s. And I mean, that is how Ryan and I got to know each other through correspondence because he was incarcerated. I certainly wasn’t seeing him in person from 2000 miles away, and I would talk to him on occasional Sundays when he had a phone call, and he could call me.

But, um, but it was through letters. So seeing that handwriting that was so similar from someone else definitely felt like reassurance. But I haven’t even told you this. This is the most incredible sign and this is, this is verifiable. It was all over the internet and TikTok, so.

com. Now we’re diving back into the show. And at the end, I have an all new healing for you to connect with your angels.

So I wrote the book prior to Ryan’s passing, and I’m so thankful that he was able to read it. And that’s one of the reasons I was so hesitant to change things about it. So other than. I suppose a few like stylistic and grammatical choices, the content of the book is what it was when he was alive.

And it has the book has nothing to do with his death. The book was supposed to be. In all honesty, I feel rather silly saying this, but, um, the book was my attempt to get my daughter Abby and Ryan back together so that they would have this document explaining the last four years, which had been so, so difficult for both of them.

In a way that they could reconcile and make sense of because I saw both sides of everything that was going on and saw the difficulty from both sides. And I said, if I could just show them what’s happening in one another’s lives, eventually, and, you know, it almost worked. They were supposed to go out on July a, um, but he passed.

July 11th after his accident on July 4th. So they, they just missed that. But what he had told me when I was writing the book, was that if I can just write it, even if I had to self publish it, which I’m so thankful I did not, but even if I self publish it, he and Abby had promotion. Like they would go to social media with this and just drum up interest in whatever way they could.

And I was like, okay, I’m going to trust you on that. And, um, I’m sure, I’m sure that if it would have worked out that way, they definitely would have. And it would probably be More successful that happened, but but what happened was this on the day that I received The first set of galleys or that like proofreading for the hard copy of the book It happened to be the anniversary one year anniversary of Ryan’s release from prison.

Abby was at my house and We had stepped outside, something completely unrelated, and while we were outside, there was a dragonfly that was just doing figure eights between us, and, um, after Ryan passed, Abby got a dragon tattoo, because I had painted for her a picture of a dragonfly, because she, during the course of Ryan’s Incarceration.

She moved on with her life to a degree and was seeing someone else and I was not in favor of that because by that time, Ryan was my son. Ryan was, I loved him like my own child. And if he could have been my son in law, I wouldn’t have, I couldn’t have been happier. So I asked him, I said, Ryan, you were a bug.

What kind of bug would you be? And he said, blue dragonfly. So I painted a blue dragonfly for Abby, which I realize is kind of deceitful because it was, she was in a different relationship and here I am giving her this image that I clearly associate with her ex boyfriend. Um, but that is what I did. So I painted it and she got the tattoo and we’re outside after he passes.

This dragonfly is buzzing between us and she looks at me and she says, Mom, and I said, Abby, I know, and we both recognized it as a sign. So she started videoing later that evening, you know, I go inside and she stayed out probably for another 20 minutes and this dragonfly stayed with her. Um, so I go out or go inside and she stays out and she comes in and she goes upstairs and maybe two hours later I hear mom, mom, come see.

And she’s watching Tik Tok. Just go viral. She posted the video and we’re seeing the views jump first by the hundreds within minutes, then by the thousands until it hit 5 million views on Tik TOK, and it was picked up on Instagram by Various accounts like Tank’s Good News, which is huge, and Advice, um, I don’t even remember the name of it, but an account from Brazil picked it up, and then we both start seeing followers go up because she doesn’t even say the name of my book, all she says is my mom wrote this book, and we got the copy today, and now this is happening.

So, of course, you know, all the comments people are accusing, it’s just publicity, but I’m like thinking, it is publicity, this is what he promised, he kept his word, and it was, it was phenomenal. Well, and you can’t make that happen, you

know, like, it’s not possible to make that happen. No. Um, even if you paid marketing to help you.

You know, they can maybe help you get a couple hundred, maybe a thousand max, but they can’t, they don’t have a magic wand to do that. Like it’s just not possible.

Right. And it was, it was phenomenal. Um, so that is what gave my, my little book, which when I mentioned that I was talking to this agent in LA and she told me, you know, you’ve written a book, you’re a nobody who has written a book about another nobody who did something that no one has heard of.

So this is really a hard sell. Um, but she was interested in it nonetheless. So, um, anyway. That happened. And by that time, you know, in the whole publication journey, I had gone from talk so excited that I was actually talking to a real agent in Los Angeles. And that seemed phenomenal. But then she wanted me to change things.

And I was so faithful to it for reasons that she couldn’t understand. And she didn’t like the title. And oh my gosh, there was no way I was changing the title after he passed, because it’s like, I knew why I chose it initially. It was something that my father had taught me or talked to me about when I was young.

And he’s like, you know, we are all connected through these silver cords to the people that we love and to God. And, you know, these etheric cords bind us to those that we love. And, I was having that conversation with Ryan about synchronicities one day, actually talking to him on the phone, and he said, um, you know, it’s kind of weird that even though none of us are together, me, him, nor Abby, um, physically, it’s like, we’re kind of bound in the ether like that.

And I’m like, that’s my title. And then, um, After she wanted me to change it. I’m like, Oh, no, not that I have to have, let’s just pause

on that for a second, because this is something that a lot of people don’t know, like whether you’re writing a book or whatever it is. Um, Whatever you’re going to try and get it out towards, like if you have a literary agent or if you’re trying to just push it out through any different type of media, they will always come to you and say, you need an entertainment value.

Like you need to have that to get it out. And so in the realm that I work with angels right now, there are all these people that, um, I don’t mean to like shame them or anything, but it’s just. It’s so against what I believe that it’s hard to make sense of it. There’s a lot of people that are like, you can make a lot of money if you just talk about angels and aliens and how, and I’m like, no, that is not like that.

Those two things don’t go together at all. Angels are of all that is God universe source there. Really? God universe sources. Energy broken out into different individual pieces that can help us in certain ways. If there are aliens, and I’m sure that there are, they’re souls too, right? And they’re being helped by angels.

They’re not angels themselves. Um, and so I just want to take a pause and reflect on this because there’s so many mediums to who just kind of get pulled in by the entertainment industry to talk about things in a ghosty way. I mean, that’s the other form of entertainment that they want to pull it because ghosty and scary and even horror really sells a lot.

Right. And so they want to take you in that direction. And even when you look at it on social media. Aliens get more hits, uh, ghosts get more hits. And so people want you to go in that direction to gain more followers. And that’s what publishers want from you, right? They want you to build up your following as big as possible to reach as many people, because for them, it all comes back to money and how much they can sell.

Which at the end of the day, everybody’s. You know, got a, I want people, you know, you want your literary agent to make money because they’re helping support you. Everybody has a role. Everybody has a job and everybody deserves compensation, but let’s not make things out to be what they’re not, right? If you want to go the ghosty route, call a duck a duck, you know, and, and go that way, but let’s not bring angels into it.

And if you want to go the alien route, you know, just call a duck, a duck, go that way, but don’t bring the angels into it. They don’t have anything. It’s kind of one of those things that’s been gnawing at me and I just need to do an entire podcast episode about it. But you talk to people who know the publishing industry or have published like you have, and it’s, it’s all the same.

Um, and people need to understand that, that as well, that you have to hold strong to your values because the message. That guide universe source wants to bring through you because this is your role. Can’t get, I don’t know if tainted is the right word or changed by other people. I don’t know, just to sell, sell, sell.

Yeah. And I felt like she wanted me to play up, um, the love story between Ryan and Abby more. And although that is a component, it’s not the whole story. It’s really the story of. motherhood and how I raised Abby and she was a challenge and because she was a challenge, I met Ryan and kind of stepped into a role of, you know, stand in mom for him and the difficulty of navigating those relationships.

And I think One of, one of the things that I wanted to emphasize for readers was how love is so much more important than control, even in parenting.

You know,

just as kids transition from those teen years to young adulthood, I understand how difficult it is to let go. And the book is about letting go in so many different ways.

And clearly, Real life made sure that I learned that lesson again. The very first line of chapter one is Listen, I want to tell you a story, but you should know from the beginning. I don’t know how it ends. And, um, that was very true. But what I meant when I originally wrote that was, I don’t know if they’re going to get back together or not.

I don’t know what’s going to happen to them. Abby and Ryan’s relationship. Well, um, God source universe saw fit that it had a much bigger meaning because I never, never would have expected things to end the way that they did with his passing. But, um, but I

got a question for you on that, because, uh, I think that this is a really big challenge that everybody is facing within the world right now is that we all do have this egoic mind that wants to control that wants to manage the way that everything goes, because when we feel in control, um, It gives us a sense of peace, I guess, in a way that we’re okay.

We have the stability, uh, and, and yet it’s just an illusion, right? Like we truly don’t have that control. And so, I think it’s one of the biggest things people are struggling with. And if you could set, tell people that are listening in like two to three minutes, what are some of the ways that you made that switch to stop tuning into the controlling nature of the egoic mind and really allowed yourself to let go and really love more?

What were the ways that you did that?

First thing that I did was take a hard look at myself and remember where I have been. what I have done, who I have been at different phases in my life, and completely acknowledge how imperfect I have been along the way, how wrong I have been, how many people I have disappointed.

And then I would say the next step for that, to that for me was, um, realizing that they love me anyway. And I learned part of this from my mom, um, watching my mom. And my dad to a degree, but boy, particularly my mom suffered through my brother’s death. Um, she never tried to control him, but boy did he know that she loved him.

And when I assessed myself, I realized I am no one’s judge. Not even my own children. My job is to attempt to keep them safe, to give them the best advice.

I said I can, but when they reach that age of accountability and they’re moving toward independence, remembering that a parent’s job is to raise an autonomous adult, which means that your child no longer needs you. You’re very lucky to have a relationship with them and have them want you in their lives.

But if you’ve been successful, there will be a point where they don’t need you. So, Abby, we’ll just say, pushed me toward that realization because she was so strong willed. She, she almost made it a goal to challenge everything. Any bit of advice that I ever gave her. If I said, you know, sit down, she was going to stand up.

Um, and loving her. I mean, from the time that she was four or five years old, we saw this personality developing. And, um, through the high school years, Got really challenging, and I came to the understanding that she is not an extension of me. She is her own person, and I can’t wrap my ego up in her behavior, her performance, what people think of her when she’s 18, 19, 20 years old.

She’s her own person, as am I, and my job is simply to love and support her in the ways that she needs me. And I think that’s really, no matter if it’s our child or a stranger that we meet. That’s our job with people. It is to love them, and that’s why I entitled the memoir’s subtitle, A Memoir of Holding Space.

Because when you do that self excavation, and you understand your own imperfection, you do create more space to hold others, and to wait for them to work through whatever it is they’re going through, and, and kind of be there if they need you, but not intrusively. And that’s what I tried to do with Ryan.

He told me I did it successfully. I think I was, you know, he wasn’t my biological child, so I was probably able to do it a bit more successfully with him than with my own daughter. But, um, but that’s what I would say. You have to look at yourself first so that you can be honest in your relationships.

Yeah.

It’s interesting. Just noting a couple of things. Uh, Blake and I have had, my husband and I have had the same counselor for like over 10 years now, a marriage counselor. And he talks about how much he just loves science and he integrates science into everything that he does. But one of the scientific pieces is that Every child, it’s part of our like evolutionary DNA to better each generation.

Every teenager looks at their parents and wants to do things differently. Um, they’re hardwired and it, and it’s not our fault, like whatsoever. It’s the evolutionary process, which I think is very, very interesting. Um, but the. And I think that’s such a core root of what you’ve gotten to, that it’s just about love and supporting them in the way that they need is such a core value, I believe, of spirituality, right?

Not trying to change people, but changing Yeah, loving them. Oh, Abby, or not Abby. Oh, this is interesting too. The Abby’s name came up. I think that’s totally Ryan on Zoom. They list me.

Maybe so. I don’t know why. I am logged into my own account. Yeah. Why it says her name. Yes. Why it says her name. She’s going to get a big kick out of this.

And I have to tell you this too. Um, not so much a sign, I guess, as I don’t know, I’m going to call it divine orchestration. So that TikTok video. Yeah. Um, Abby got, Thousands of comments. Um, so overwhelming. She was, you know, miss social media up to that point in her life. And then when that happened, and she had all of the exposure that she thought she wanted.

That’s when she stepped back so it overwhelmed her and she literally stayed off for at least two to three weeks and then she went back after that time and was just scrolling through some of the comments which had certainly, you know, compiled to, I don’t even know how many, but she would click a random one here and there and she chose this one.

And it was from a young man, um, who is a, a musician in South Africa. So she clicked on it and he had messaged her and he had just said something fairly simple, like you have such beautiful energy or something along those lines. She decided to respond to him. And They struck up a relationship and within six months, he had flown here to meet us.

And this is, this is just at the end of 22. And then after we met him. She went to South Africa for six months and, you know, true to living, you know, hardwired to test the limits like young people are. She did that and, um, she is now living in South Africa with Liam and their son. Daniel who was named after my brother and they are doing fabulously and Liam said when he saw Abby’s video it was like a voice told him you need to contact that girl and I said Did that voice have a country accent by any chance?

Which should have been Ryan, of course. But it’s just remarkable that of all of the comments, and she did talk to a few people along the way, but.

Oh, Colleen, I love that. story so much because that is how it works. You were talking about those silver cords and I just see these energy lines drawn between all of us.

And I’m so glad that you came on the podcast today because exactly what you say, as you say it, um, Liam heard the voice. You heard the voice from Ryan’s mom. I heard the voice from my dad. This is why it’s so incredibly important for people to understand intuition because we just think it’s like this spiritual voice within, but really it is.

I believe there is concrete evidence within the world, especially the stories that you just gave that it’s God universe source. It’s our loved ones on the other side. It’s our angels drawing us to the people that we need to be connected with. And if you just listen to that voice, like my dad always told me, I promise you, listener, you will never go wrong.
